Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Communications Operator in the University Police Department. Two positions are available.

Primary Job Duties: Operates emergency telephones and dispatches calls to police officers via two-way radios. Monitors alarm and security systems and closed circuit TV. Maintains radio, key and alarm logs: records calls by entering data into an automated records management system.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of clerical or other related experience and basic computer and keyboarding skills.

Must possess the ability to type accurately; to multi-task; to learn emergency communications work; to learn applicable procedures and regulations; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to react calmly, quickly and decisively in emergency situations; to obtain, prioritize, summarize and relay information orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions; to write legibly; and to monitor multiple radio frequencies.

Preferred Qualifications: Possess a current METERS/NCIC certification and/or experience in a police/emergency communications field.

This position is considered Essential Personnel and is therefore expected to report to work in emergency situations such as extreme weather conditions when the campus may be closed.

This position is considered Sensitive Personnel and therefore has a “substantially significant degree of responsibility for the safety of others and there is a potential that impaired performance in this position could result in death of or injury to the employee or others.”

These positions are full-time non-exempt Contingent II (long term contractual) position with a limited benefits package including medical, dental, prescription, paid leave, tuition remission and more. The position requires working a rotating schedule that includes working nights and weekends. The starting salary is $18.57 per hour, which is approximately $38,732 annually.
